cards, post-its, calendars, encouragement notes, books, mnms, and a hippo

this week was filled with not too much homework, Balyo battles, purple, late nights, cleaning, shopping, tests, and other stufff.
last sunday.... my extra time from not facebooking caught up with me. I went to church, mcdonalds for lunch, came back to the dorm. cleaned every drawer of stuff, did homework for days up to thursday, took a 2 hour nap, did like 4 loads of laundry and folded it all, watched a movie, cleaned up our food area, changed the sheets on my bed, read a chapter in a book and relaxed. and i still had time to be bored! hahaa. it was a productive day!
Balyo battles.... its a competition for our dorm in which each hall is assigned a color (we were purple :D) and we all show appreciation for one staff or faculty member. then they judge who did the best. then at night we have olympics and then determine a winner. it was so much fun! walking around in ALL purple, ALL day, looking crazy, was SO much fun!!! the olympics were a blast! we won the first competition and came second in the last one... we sucked in the middle one (which was firing marshmallows with a sling shot) but it was still fun! overall.... we came SECOND!!! it made me very happy! :D i love my hall so much!!!!!!
today i went shopping with my roommate. i got a pair of jeans and a pair of shorts. yay! :D we had fun shopping :D good break from school work! i should be doing homework right now... but i dont want to. its not due till later in the week so i think ill just not do it until then :D sounds good to me. hahaaa.
on another note... the weather this week was not good! monday was nice... and today was niiiice! but in between SUCKED!! rain... rain.... rain... and more rain.

oh the adventures!

Yesterday was amazing! I finished classes at 3, so I came back to my room and cleaned it :D Then when my roommmate got done with classes an hour later, we went and played frisbee golf with a bunch of our friends. SO much fun! and the weather was great! :D After that we ate dinner and hung out. Then at 8:30 a whole bunch of us went to celebrate one of my friends, Katelyn's, birthday. We piled into cars and drove for an hour to Beaverton to play LAZER TAG!!! :D I only played one game but it was a lot of fun! After that we went to downtown Portland to a place called Voo Doo Donuts. Oh my word!! It was amazing! I had an oreo-peanut butter donut. So stinkin delicious! :D We all stood on the street and ate our donuts and watched weird people walk around. There were a lot of very hammered young ladies walking around with barely any clothing on. It made me very thankful that I find happiness and joy in things other than what they do! One of the guys in our group started talking to a bum... as he ate his donut. Ironic but very funny to watch. Oh... so we got lost trying to find Voo Doo Donuts and as we were driving around... we saw a couple of things including a naked lady dancing in a window, and the Blazers entering a party! Oh and one more thing.... we payed 8 bucks for parking... ridiculous! We nly stayed for like 30 mins. Then we drove home. Definitely the BEST car ride of my life! The driver was one of Katelyn's friends, Tanner, and his wife, Lydia, was in the passenger seat. WOW! Tanner and Lydia were "arguing" (not really arguing, but disagreeing about random things like whether there are goats frolicking in the fields or not hahaa) the whole way there and back! I was cracking up the whole time! We got back at around 1:30. It was a very good and fun night!! :D

God is so good!

Okay so I am trying to post more often... and so far it is working. :D

2010 started and I was nervous about the year and not very excited. i knew (well i thought) that a couple of huge things were going to happen this year. the first being my friends, mae and grace, being deported to the philippines. another thing was deb cayot's (the directors wife at the camp i worked at over the summer) cancer taking her away from all of us, including her 2 young kids who i adore. well Deb wasn't supposed to make it much past Christmas... but she started trying some new thing and her cancer count has been dropping drastically :D i havent had an update about her in the past two weeks.... but it is SO amazing that she is doing so much better! my youth pastor saw her at the beginning of the year and said that she had never looked better! :D God is so good! with mae and grace's situation.... they had a court date on the 10th of this month and at that they could have been given anywhere between a few weeks and a few months to leave. but God is good and they were given SEVEN months until they will have another court date at which they will set one last final date at which they will be given a few weeks or a few months to leave. these girls were expecting this to be their last semester here but they will be around longer! :D it was such a blessing to find that out!! :D

vampires

So... for my American Thought and Culture class, we have to do a news report every week. We have to switch up the ways we get news (so if I do a website one week, the next should be TV, radio, or magazine etc). This week I did a magazine. Granddad subscribed to National Review for me. I am not sure if you guys know what that is.... but it is a very republican magazine that is usually all about politics.... which I hate. But I was reading an article about vampires and LOVED it! The author was writing about how the change in perspective of vampires is a symptom of a changing society. Vampires used to be scary, evil, and creepy. But now, they are loving, kind, helpful, and attractive. Society has, and still is, becoming very relativistic. This relativistic view on life means that we can't say vampires are evil... it isn't their fault! I think thats crap. The author also talks about how in the grinch, the old movie simply showed him as being bad, but the newer movie gave background so that we could see why he was bad. Excuses. And the Wizard of Oz.... Wicked was made to show why the Wicked Witch of the West became bad. It wasn't her fault... she isn't bad.... she is just misunderstood. Like I said before... crap. I can't word what the author said in his closing paragraph any better than he did, so I am going to type it here:

"Nowadays, however, vampirism and its related maladies are just alternative lifestyles. Condemning them is an unforgivable rendering of judgement and a crime against the imperatives of moral relativism. A society that has trouble recognizing monsters in art probably will have difficulty identifying terrorists in its airports. And its horror stories will become bloodless. When everybody's perspective is equally valid, vampires lose their bite. We may have gained friends, but we've lost enemies--and a world without enemies is the stuff of a dull utopian fairytale" (Miller in National Review).

It is so true! This really got me thinking so i decided to blog about it :D

On a more personal note... cut throat mafia was AMAZING on saturday! So much fun! Really creepy too! And my guest never showed up for Corban Experience :( I was bummed but it did give me more freedom at Limelight.... which was AMAZING! We have an amazing ASB and they went all out for this dance off!

running home to you

hello.

the past couple of weeks have been hectic. insane. ridiculous.
one of my closest friends here got kicked out of Corban because she was involved drugs and alcohol. that sucked.
i found out that Ben (one of my marine friends) is engaged :D
i spent like 15 hours in the library doing research about spotted owls, being stretched, and balance.
american thought test... ughh. but it wasnt too bad.
i began my classroom observations in a middle school. love it!
my filipino friends informed me that they will be lucky to stay in the U.S until the end of the semester (meaning they will be deported in somewhere between a few weeks and 5 months).
spring break got planned. road trippin it down to california with some chicas from here who really want to go to disneyland :D
saw avatar.
random. the weather yesterday was amazing! i did homework outside with flip flops on :D of course today is crappy and raining.
i have four tests this week. not excited about that.
i was sick last week. its sucked.

my roommate and i decided yesterday that we need to work on purifying our minds. so goodbye secular music, scary movies, movies with sexual content, and anything that pollutes our minds. we have both been feeling convicted about beings set apart from the world. unfortunately that means we will be walking out of movies that our friends are watching. but that is what we are called to do so we are going to do it.

plans for tonight: wal-mart. cut-throat mafia. homework maybe. sleep.

tomorrow night my roommate and i both have a person staying with us for Corban Experience. thatll be fun. hopefully.
