goodbye 2009, hello 2010!

WOW! 2009 is over! It was definitely a landmark year in my life. I graduated from high school... had a very interesting summer full of new experiences... started college... moved away from home... made amazing friends... and felt what it is really like to be alone (as in independence AND lonely). 2009 was a strange year... but I loved it!

Just because the year changed doesn't mean that I will change or that any memories from 2009 are gone, to me it just means that I get to build on what I have come from. I am not expecting radical changes in my life just because the last two digits of the year changed. God can definitely make that happen but then it is because of God, not the year. I am very excited to start 2010... just the fact that I have a whole year ahead of me is exciting! I know that I will experience new things and have a lot of fun.

I don't usually make new years resolutions... I choose a theme. But this year I did both.
2008 theme: Smile
2009 theme: Love
2010 theme: Heart. This includes so many different aspects of life. God, others, effort and focus are just a few.

Resolutions for 2010:
-Be in God's Word EVERY day!
-Let go, and let God.
-Form relationships/closer relationships with my siblings
-Learn German
-Be healthier... exercise and eat better
-Be a better friend
(there are more but I am not gonna put them all up here)

God has blessed me with a new year and I plan to use it for whatever He wants. This is not my year or my time, it is God's.

Have a wonderful 2010!

california sunshine

being home is niiice! i definitely needed the break from the weather! california has amazing weather! i love it!! im gonna bullet my thoughts because i have a lot of them :D

-i miss corban! i never thought i would say that... but i really miss school. i miss having friends around 24/7!!

-i got a blister on the bottom of my foot yesterday. i was an idiot and walked to the bank with mum... IN FLIP FLOPS!! i was trying to take advantage of the weather.... not such a good idea

-i am in love with Caleb & Sol!!!! they did a concert at school a couple of weeks ago! i love them! their music is amazing! i listened to their cd for the whole plane trip down here, all day yesterday (when i was in my room anyway), and all day today. im sure eventually i will get sick of it... but i havent yet :D "i built a house destroyed by wind and rain. i built it without the Lord, i labored in vain"

-im loving real food!!! :D sooo nice to not eat aramark!!!!!!

-i miss the no-sales-tax-ness of oregon!

-i appreciate my cal-king bed :D

-i have barely texted today! it feels so weird! but i am kinda proud of myself :D

-it feels weird being home... i feel sort of disconnected... but mostly from my camp friends. we have not kept in touch as well as we thought we would... it kinda disappoints me. the disconnection is also because i have finally moved on. i no longer feel like i need to go back to valley... it is my past and i have no desire to go back. i love my life now and wouldnt trade it for anything!

-i cleaned my room today. it was SO messy!! i have only been home since tuesday... but it took me about 45 mins to clean it!

-my family and i went to naples last night! it was so pretty! i loved it!

-no homework is amazing!

-i did pretty good on the one final that i was concerned about!!! (i only took two)

-my schedule next week is filling up fast! i am very excited to catch up with friends! :D

-CHRISTMAS IS IN LESS THAN A WEEK!!! this year i am actually excited for Christmas! i have not been such a grinch this year... i have enjoyed Christmas music! i got to the point where i let my roommate play it constantly! :D yay!!!

-speaking of roommates... i miss mine a lot! over the past few weeks... we would just randomly stop what we were doing and get into intense conversations. part of that was procrastination... but it was worth it! God has seriously blessed me with her! i couldnt have asked for a better roommate! we have all been talking about roommates for next year... and we are probably not going to be together... which is fine... but being her roommate for this year has and will continue to be AMAZING!

-i have a newly discovered LOVE for basketball (watching it :P ). i have a friend who is 6'3"... so we go to the guys games to find nice tall men :D there are two b-ball players who are 6'8"!!!!!!!!! i can dream.. right???!?!? hahaa

freezingggg my butttttt offfffff

it been a while since i posted!

life has been hectic this week. i had a 10 page paper due today and a presentation. next week i will only have 2 finals!! :D yay! then i get to go home on tuesday! super stoked for extra time at home! :D as of right now... i have one more class left in the semester! time has seriously flown since i have been here! i cannot believe that i am halfway through my first year of college!

something else that has been adding stress to my life is my major. i have been told so many different things by so many different people that i honestly have no idea what i am going to do. i know that i want to teach but apparently i need to know what age i want to teach right now. i dont want to make that choice yet! my ideal major would be to double major in elementary education and english.... but if i did that i would be here an extra year..... dont really want to do that! i will figure it out while im home... but its so hard deciding what i want to do because this decision will effect the rest of my life.

we had a hall prayer time on tuesday and many of the requests were about people dying. there has been a lot of death in our hall this semester. obviously i the people i live with are not dying, but their family members and extended family members are. it has made me very appreciative of life. one family i know is going through a lot right now... the mom has cancer and is unlikely to make it much past Christmas if she makes it that far. she has a 5 year old daughter and an 8 year old son. it is going to be so hard for her husband and family. i am so thankful that i was able to grow up with both of my parents around.

the group of friends that i have become a part of is starting to have issues. i have never been a part of a group this big so i have never been part of this stuff before. i love all of them but i am very excited to be going home and having a break! i just cant deal with some people right now and leaving for 4 weeks is a blessing!

stuff has been happening and i finally decided to sit down and type a long email to Tim. i am so glad i did! i feel like an idiot for not doing it earlier. this is part of what he told me:
"its what God had planned for you so you just have to understand that there is someone else out there for you and that that person is perfect for you in every way."
that is exactly what i needed to hear! God is amazing at putting the right person in my life at the right time to encourage me.

God has been teaching me so much over the past few weeks! its amazing :D

on another note.... the weather here is OUT OF CONTROL!!! right now it is THREE degrees!!!! it was about 20 a couple of days ago and i thought i was going to DIE! apparently it is only gonna get colder! there has been no snow because there has been no rain! but all of the fountains on campus are frozen!! its so cold!!! i cant wait for california!!

happy thanksgiving :D

as you can tell by my last post, i have a lot to be thankful for! the past couple of weeks have made me more thankful than i have ever been. last year at this time, i had just got back from El Salvador... i know that i was thankful then, but i feel like that was because i was comparing what i had to what the communities there had. this year, my thankfulness has come from seeing God work in my life and the ones around me.

leaving for college was not super hard, but when i left, i never expected the experience to be like it is. the first 6 weeks (aka the time before my first visit home) were definitely the hardest. i became very close to my roommate but thats about it. but these past 6 (?) weeks since returning to Corban, have been amazing. i have gotten so much closer to a much larger group of people. i have never been a part of a friend group as large as the one i am now, so i was hesitant about getting close to them. but they have all shown me that they are there for me. i am so thankful for the friends i have at Corban! they are such a huge blessing :D

my friends that i left when i went to college are also something that i am extremely thankful for! i have kept in contact with most of the people i hoped i would. and it is nice to know that even though our lives are so different now, we are still friends and that is not going to change any time soon (i hope!) :D

the thing that i am most thankful for at the moment is: CALIFORNIA!!! the weather is amazing! being able to be outside, with only shorts and a tank top on, is amazing! i love it! oregon is great, but nothing compares to california! :D

i hope you all have an amazing thanksgiving that is filled with giving thanks, turkey, and other delicious food!

"Give thanks to the Lord, for he is good; his love endures forever" -Psalm 107:1

thankful

my birthday was kind of strange this year. parts were amazing, other parts not so much. im not going into detail but ill explain the good parts! my roommate and one other friend organized a surprise party for me! they got panda express! :D my favorite! a bunch of us hung out and had fun. i loved it! :D

over the past 2-3 days, i have really become thankful for the supportive people that God has put in my life here. after my birthday, i have realized that people have my back. they are willing to stand for me and fight for me. that is probably the best thing i could ever have! i know that my high school friends have my back too, but i have never been in a situation that requires them to act on that. i had a long talk with my RA, her roommate, and one other girl in my hall tonight. i was able to see that no matter what happens, they are there for me, they will beat people up if they harm me. it makes me feel so much happier :D

last day being a minor!!

so today was a roller coaster. i found out that if i study abroad in germany next fall... i will get a grand total of ZERO dollars in scholarships from Corban. if i go to Israel i can get up to 3000. not much difference, and honestly, i will find the money to go. im just kinda annoyed at the guy who i talked to... because i could have got the 3000 for germany if he had explained things right. long story. so i had my little break down and freaked out. but then i calmed down and realized it would work out.

then i had classes and stuff. after classes i relaxed and then went to dinner. after that i went to PVG to hang out with some friends. we played a couple of games of pool which was fun :D it made me happy! great way to relax and have fun! now i have hall testimonies and then my RA and some other people are taking me out for... donuts i think :D

im excited about tomorrow but kinda nervous... something bad always happens on my birthday. but im hoping this year will not follow that trend. :D

well i hope you all enjoyed reading my last post as a minor! :P

i love random nights!

yesterday my roommate drove home because her sister was having a baby. so i went over to see my friends in PVG (another dorm). we were going to eat dinner so we gathered our group. then tyler and seth said the were going to panda express and heather wanted to go but wanted another girl to go too. so sage and i joined them. it was so much fun! real food is so nice! haaha. we hung out there for a bit and then went back to PVG. on the way home, heather said she wanted to see paranormal activity... but tyler didnt want to. so part of our group went to blockbuster and rented scary movies. since is was open dorms, we crammed (literally... there were six of us on one bed and three on a couch in front of the bed) into heathers room and watched untraceable. that movie is creeeeepy! then we went into the lobby (because open dorms ended) and watched flighplan. ehhh i didnt like it. then we had the movie room booked so we went and watched the uninvited. I LOVED IT! i screamed so much! it was awesome! then we decided that we were all gonna crash in heather and kristins room because we were all so freaked out. hahaa. it was such a fun night! loved ittttt!! im super excited for tonight because i am gonna go stay in PVG again and tonight we have the movie room from 12am-3am :D and the guys get to stay in there tonight :D
